Artist's Comments

This...would have never seen the light of day had I not been desperate for something to enter into the contest. I have not touched my markers in months; my art skills I feel have been horribly out of practice. Normaly I don't do fan art, but I feel as if it might be good for me to participate in DA communities and since PotO is an interest of mine....it seemed logical to join.
Here I have drawn original Erik. let it be known that I want nothing to do with the musical, or the new movie. I liked Laun Chaney. I liked Claude Reins even, especially for his voice. I do not like these new fabio twenty something rock stars with deep tans despite living in a subterranian environment. I like my Eriks as close to the book as can be. Yellow eyes and as much mask coverage as we can manage. If you've studied corpses, as I have, so much the better! PotO (Leroux version) provides young (and middle aged) gothlets a real hero and tragic love fixation. Do not ruin it for the rest of us by making him some angsty little boy with cheesy lines and no real singing talent.
*steps off soapbox.*

Wow! :clap: I love this. The shading and his face. I can never get his face to look right under the full mask ^^;
Wonderful job. I think I shall peruse your gallery for more phantom works.

I'm a real Don Juan." And, straightening up, he put his hand on his hip, and with the hideous thing that was his head wobbling on his shoulders, he thundered, "Look at me! I'm Don Juan triumphant!"

<( "i want to live like everybody else. i want to have a wife like everybody else and to take her out on sundays. i have invented a mask that makes me look like anybody. people willnot even turn around to stare at me. you will be the happies

Ah, beautiful...I love the art, and great job keeping it true to the book. I agree, the corpse-like Erik is far more intriguing and, in some ways, more appealing than the Gerik version.

Blessed are they who can laugh at themselves, for they will never run short of amusement.

HALLAJULAH!

Markers. Oh, how I envy you. This picture is so fabulously done, and I ESPECIALLY love how you have Erik carrying the lily (I think. Don't know my flowers very well.) and the violin; the enchanted violin, I'm supposing. So incredibly beautiful. <3
:iconphantomofnyc:
